Empathy is the ability to feel the emotions of others around you. It doesn't stop there though, an empath can not only feel others emotions, yet they can often take them on as their own. An empath can feel the intentions of those around them as well, where they are coming from, what they've been through. It doesn't stop with people either. A powerful empath can even feel the emotions, intentions and so on of animals, bugs and plants as well. It extends to all living things.

Most empaths end up naturally depressed because of all the emotions they experience, which often aren't even their own. It leads to seclusion from other people. An empath doesn't want many people around them because they can't control their abilities most of the time. As quite a powerful natural empath myself, I often keep very few people around me. My spouse and my three dogs and soon to be child. It's being able to feel others emotions. It leads to usually giving too much because you know when someone is needing something even before they ask. It leads to stretching yourself too thin, doing everything for other people because you just want the vibes around you to be calm and peaceful.
In today's article I want to give you some signs that you may be a natural empath, and if most of them apply to you odds are you have the gift.
The first sign of being an empath is you can feel the emotions of other people, even if they feel they are hiding it. You're most likely able to pick up on it immediately. You feel that emotion as your own. This is the first and most obvious sign of having this special ability. It can be overwhelming, draining but also very informative as well. If this happens to you, you're probably an empath.
The second sign of being a natural empath is you experience overwhelming energy or anxiety while out in public. Sure, you could have social anxiety, yet it can also be because you're an empath. Being in large groups of people has always been something I haven't been able to do. I can't even be in the grocery store for long periods of time and often have other people do my shopping. This is because I take on what feels like everyone's emotions in the whole building. Sometimes it can be so crippling that I just have to stop what I'm doing, checkout of the store and leave. It's literally that bad and sometimes there isn't really a way to turn it off. You just have to get out of that situation. If this happens to you, you might be an empath.
The third sign today that you're a natural empath is you tend to 'feel out' the room that you're in. You like to be surrounded by peaceful things. For example, in my home I have many trees, plants, statues, crystals and things that bring me to a peaceful place of mind. I thrive in peaceful environments. I can immediately feel if the place I am in or the place I am going is peaceful or not. If it has a low vibration, or I just get a bad feeling, I do not go. This tends to lead to me never going anywhere for the most part, which isn't bad right now considering the pandemic. If you 'feel out' places before you go to them, you're probably an empath.
The fourth sign today of a natural empath is you really understand where people are coming from, even if they are having a hard time expressing themselves. You put yourself in their shoes, you understand them deeper than they even know. You've always been like this. You connect with people on a whole other level and as a result people feel they can come to you. People feel they can open up to you and most empaths usually end up in a career of helping others.
The fifth and final sign today of an empath is tragic or upsetting things really just get to you on a deep level. It doesn't matter if it's on TV, if it's on a picture that you see - if it's violent, aggressive, horrible, tragic - it affects you on a deep level. This is because you can feel that energy, you feel that emotion, somehow without being there you can be there and it hurts your heart to a deep level. If this is happening to you, it's because you're able to connect to something others can't, and it makes you special. You're probably an empath.
Having empath abilities may sound like it's fun, thrilling or a handy tool to have in a tough situation, and it can be all those things. There is a darker side to these gifts. Sometimes you just can't clock out, you can't shut it off. As mentioned earlier, most end up either depressed in some way, working helping other people or both. Emotions are strong, and so is energy. Being able to constantly be connected to it helps many people, yet at the same time we natural empaths have to remember to take care of yourself. Know when to say no. Know when to take a break from helping others and take a day to help yourself. If you're an empath, you're not alone. There are others like you so embrace your gift, you're not weird, you're amazing.
